Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has announced a province-wide referendum for October 19 on whether it should separate from Canada. Voters will choose between remaining in Canada or starting the process for a future binding independence referendum. Alberta, holds the world's fourth-largest crude oil reserves, contributes almost as much to Canada's growth as its financial and manufacturing hub of Ontario, which has more than three times the population.
I wrote articles arguing that California, not yet the highest-tax state but never a tax haven either, was proof that big government could provide competent services. For a generation under Govs. Earl Warren, Goodwin Knight, Pat Brown and Ronald Reagan, the California state government built thousands of miles of freeway, first-rate state universities and a whole archipelago of community colleges, and had begun to reduce smog in the LA basin. No one would write such an article about California today, except maybe in a humor magazine.
Governor Greg Abbott, alongside Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Commissioner Audrey O’Neill and Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Assistant Secretary Alex J. Adams, today announced Texas is joining the Trump Administration’s “A Home for Every Child” initiative. The announcement comes during National Foster Care Month and reflects the state’s ongoing efforts to ensure every child in Texas has access to a safe, stable, and loving home.
Just a few short days ago, ExxonMobil shareholders crushed the evil proxy voting services in a landslide 71% vote of support for moving from New Jersey to Texas. In every way this is a financially responsible and shareholder-friendly outcome. The fact that opponents urged a vote AGAINST the move only reinforces our assessment that the "proxy advisors" industry are hopelessly woke and routinely spit out rotten advice that would actually make shareholders poorer.
Texas oil and gas regulator Wayne Christian today celebrated nation-leading Texas oil production growth. According to Baker Hughes, active U.S. oil-directed drilling rigs rose by 10 to 425 last week, with all of the gains occurring in Texas. The jump represents the largest weekly increase in more than four years and underscores the state’s continued leadership in upstream production growth. The rise also signals renewed momentum in drilling activity amid improving market conditions.
The Political Left of this nation have been lecturing the rest of America nonstop about the supposedly singular sins of Israel. The left-wing media, the new Democrat-Socialist, student activists and professors have painted Israel and their Jewish supporters as Nazis, fascists, murderers and more. In short, the tell-tale sign of anti-Jewish activists is not necessarily direct opposition to Israel – It is endless fixation on the supposed "crimes" of Israel, when far greater documented horrors against them never merit a word.
Texas Oil & Gas regulator Wayne Christian penned an opinion piece in the Washington Examiner, saying, "As leaders, we should welcome scrutiny and ensure our natural resources are protected,” said Christian. “That is unequivocal, but at what point does responsible oversight become fear-driven obstructionism? The reality is simple: artificial intelligence is here. The question is not whether AI will exist, but who will control it."
As Chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism & Intelligence, I participated in a full committee hearing this week to recognize and thank the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents who continued to serve unpaid during the Democrat-caused longest government shutdown in history. I encourage everyone to especially thank our TSA agents serving across Texas, and our district in San Angelo, Midland, and Killeen.
The UK is in a deep economic slump, so now the elites in Europe and London are blaming Brexit and the British voters. But that's a laughable misreading of history. When the Brits wisely ditched the EU, the hope was that the UK would adopt the U.S. Economic Freedom Model and elect power-to-the-people leaders like Donald Trump while cleaning its hands of the socialists in Germany and France and the heavy-handed bureaucrats in Brussels. Funny how that "Socialism" stuff works.
President Biden's administration projected weakness on the world stage — beginning with the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan — which emboldened our adversaries around the globe. As I always say, weakness invites aggression, while strength and deterrence lead to peace. This week, I joined the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace to discuss how our nation can bolster deterrence and ultimately peace around the world.
Senators Ted Cruz & Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and 23 others are requesting that President Trump and his administration work with the United Nations to dismantle the United Nations Relief & Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The USAID's Inspector General (OIG) has identified multiple UNRWA employees who participated in the October 7th terrorist attack, as well as 14 others affiliated with Hamas.
“We are empowering Texas employers with the tools they need to support working families, which is critical for our state’s economy,” said TWC Chairman Joe Esparza, announcing the effort to share best practices and help businesses adopt policies to improve morale, reduce absences, and increase productivity. The new webpage comes after passage of Texas Senate Bill 1265, and explains available state & federal tax credits, and dependent care savings accounts.
Once again, the U.S. Senate is on vacation. This group barely works, and when they are in session, they accomplish practically nothing. Since the start of President Trump’s second term, Congress has passed only one major piece of legislation – and while the “One Big Beautiful Bill” was a notable accomplishment, it should not have been the only legislative victory for Republicans in Congress. President Trump and MAGA supporters will never allow the GOP to return to the days of losing and capitulation.
We’re headed into Memorial Day Weekend, and it seems particularly poignant that we have a president who's taking care of unfinished problems created and left by his predecessors. Speaking of that, the Democrat National Committee finally released its “2024 Autopsy Report” – and its a half-baked draft reckoning of the party’s 2024 Election Loss. A 192-page document, its actually riddled with errors and even misspelled names of its own party members. They paid good money for the report, and came up with two short words.
Governor Greg Abbott today announced that he directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to request officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) join state and local partners in conducting preliminary damage assessments in Panhandle communities affected by recent wildfire activity and South Texas communities impacted by April severe storms.
Texas oil and gas regulator Wayne Christian today applauded the reported $4 billion federal oil and gas lease sale in Texas and New Mexico, the largest onshore federal oil and gas lease sale in U.S. history. Christian emphasized that the record-setting sale reflects the results of the streamlined, cooperative federal regulatory environment under the Trump administration, which has facilitated increased leasing activity and market participation.
