Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today announced the release of his agency’s A Study on Organized Retail Theft in Texas (PDF), which reflects the findings of a Hegar-led Texas Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Task Force and includes recommendations developed from meetings, interviews and site visits with experts and stakeholders. The ORT Task Force, which includes law enforcement, retailers and policy experts, conducted research, listened to expert testimony and visited retailers as part of its study.

Marketed natural gas production achieved record highs of 33.6 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in August per the Energy Information Administration (EIA) and even higher at 33.8 bcf/d in October by TXOGA’s estimates. Other Texas records in August 2024 included crude oil production of 5.8 million barrels per day (mb/d), NGLs of 3.85 mb/d, natural gas gross withdrawals of 36.1 bcf/d, and 4.5 mb/d of petroleum refined products, per EIA and U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) data.
School districts will receive additional state funding if they choose to use the SBOE-approved materials. Additionally, if school districts voluntarily opt-in to use Bluebonnet Learning, a second stream of additional funding will be made available to defray printing costs. After the legislature voted last year to bring the program to all families in the state, demand was so significant that more than 55,000 families had to be waitlisted for the program after funding ran out. In response to this high demand, lawmakers in the Tarheel state voted for expansion, but Governor Cooper vetoed the bill. The legislature voted to override Cooper's veto - thus freeing up nearly $500 million in funding that will clear the waitlist.
