Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) joined United States Department of Agriculture  (USDA) Secretary, Brooke Rollins, and Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) in Austin to announce the USDA’s commitment to fund and build a domestic sterile fly production facility to enhance New World screwworm (NWS) containment and eradication efforts. The NWS is a devastating pest that causes serious and often deadly damage to livestock, wildlife, pets, and in rare cases, humans.

Texas A.G. Ken Paxton Slams, Sues Investment Firm – But His Wallet Tells a Different Story

Attorney General Ken Paxton – who is running to unseat Texas Sen. John Cornyn – issued a Press Release recently that drew attention to what he called a “major win” that would allow Texas to hold some of the nation's largest investment firms accountable for squeezing "money out of hardworking Americans.” What Paxton failed to mention in his release, however, is that he had benefited when the firm's profits boosted his own investments in those firms.

Texas Labor Market Adds 8,700 Jobs in July

The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry had the largest over-the-month increase in July after adding 5,500 jobs. Professional and Business Services added 3,800 jobs over the month while Construction added 2,800. In addition, the Construction industry grew by 3.2 percent over the year in Texas and outperformed the industry’s growth rate nationally by two percentage points.

Texas ABLE® Program Celebrates ABLE Savings Day

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock is joining the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) in recognizing today as the second annual Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Savings Day and reminding Texans with disabilities and their families about the advantages ABLE plans can offer people living with disabilities. According to NAST, more than 195,000 Americans with disabilities have collectively saved $2.3 billion in ABLE accounts. ​​​​​​​

Gov. Abbott Activates Texas Emergency Response Resources Ahead of Tropical Weather Risk

According to the National Weather Service, beginning Friday an incoming tropical weather system is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds and the potential for flooding to portions of the Gulf Coast & South Texas. The impacts may lead to hazardous travel and dangerous flash flooding in some areas. Texans are urged to take precautions now by preparing an emergency plan and following the directions of local officials.
