Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Workforce Commission invites the media to attend an in-person kick-off event for National Apprenticeship Week. Fellow public agencies, employers, and individuals interested in learning more or participating in apprenticeships can follow the event broadcast live on Zoom.
The event runs from noon-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2022, in the Texas Workforce Commission session room, located at 101 E. 15th Street, Room 244, in Austin. The U.S. Department of Labor officials and TWC agency leaders will join TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez, who serves as an Apprenticeship Ambassador, and TWC Executive Director Ed Serna to discuss registered apprenticeships in Texas. TWC currently has an apprenticeship program in the Information Technology Division and is adding several more.

TWC and its Workforce Solutions partners encourage employers to discover how Registered Apprenticeship programs provide earn-and-learn opportunities for businesses, education partners, labor organizations, and industry associations to meet the ongoing need for a skilled workforce.
In addition to employing its own apprentices, TWC continues to invest in apprenticeships, dedicating $15 million to the healthcare apprenticeships initiative and $4 million to the critical skills initiative earlier this year. There are more than 693 registered apprenticeship programs in the state, with 22,753 active participants. To learn more, visit the ApprenticeshipTexas webpage.
