BRADY: Congress Must Hold China Accountable for Human Rights Abuses, Unfair Trade Practices, Economic Coercion

"We must demonstrate to China that we are united in our resolve to hold it accountable for gross abuses of human rights and respond effectively. . . "

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement after the House passage of H.R. 6256, which will ensure that goods made with forced labor in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China do not enter the United States market:

“It is vital that we stop the scourge of modern-day slavery in China, and this bill is an important step forward in that effort.

“Unfortunately, House Democrats’ partisanship delayed this vote by 14 months, and cut out a more collaborative approach towards rooting out forced labor from supply chains.

“House Democrats’ partisan approach to combatting significant trade issues with China must change. We must demonstrate to China that we are united in our resolve to hold it accountable for gross abuses of human rights and respond effectively to its wide range of unfair trade practices and economic coercion. There’s too much at stake to play politics on this issue.”
