Brady, Scalise Lead Republicans in 'Tax Camp' to Fight Biden's Tax Increases

Discuss how Democrats’ tax hikes sabotage America’s jobs recovery, hurts families and small businesses

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, House Ways & Means Committee Republican Leader Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) alongside Republican Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) led Ways & Means Members and Republican Members of the freshman and sophomore classes in Tax Camp.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:
  • Republicans at Tax Camp discussed the success of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), and examined how Democrats' tax hikes will devastate working families, blue-collar workers, and small businesses.
  • TCJA lifted up American workers and families, brought jobs back to the United States, and made American businesses competitive.
  • Democrats' tax plan will reverse these gains, send these jobs back overseas, hurt our jobs recovery, and weaken communities’ ability to invest in themselves.
Following Tax Camp, Rep. Brady and Rep. Scalise held a press conference alongside Ways and Means Members Rep. Carol Miller (R-WV), Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK), Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA), and freshman Members Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-NM).

During the press conference, Brady said, “We are going to fight these tax increases tooth and nail, because it will land on America’s workers, our families, and on our communities. Right now, coming out of this pandemic, this is the last thing we need.”

Added Rep. Scalise, “[Under TCJA] we brought millions of jobs back to America, we made America competitive again at a time when we were losing companies…and the biggest beneficiaries were the lowest income earners in America. […] President Biden right now is trying to unravel that success by raising taxes on hardworking families, and by passing tax increases that would run more jobs out of America and cost those low-income families.”
