Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Former United States Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX) today endorsed Josh Winegarner to be the next member of Congress from Texas’ 13th District, which covers the Panhandle, Texoma, and North Texas area. The Republican Primary Runoff for Congress will be held on July 14th.

Gramm, a Conservative Republican, served as Texas’ United States Senator from 1985 through 2002.

“Josh Winegarner is a strong conservative and free-market advocate, and we need him in Congress. Josh and I worked together,” said Gramm. “I know him and I trust him. He will stand with President Trump on the economy and get our energy and agriculture industries back on track. I am proud to endorse Josh Winegarner for Congress.”

Winegarner finished on top in the March Republican primary with nearly 40% of the vote and a lead of nearly 20 percentage points over his closest rival. Fifteen candidates vied for the position and now two are preparing for the July 14th Runoff.

“Senator Gramm endorsed me because he knows this election is about making sure we keep a strong, knowledgeable voice in Congress for the important issues that impact our district like agriculture and energy,” said Winegarner. “Our district is critical to the economic health of America, and we’ve been hit hard by COVID-19. That is exactly why it is so important that we elect a conservative with common- sense solutions and deep roots in the district.”

Winegarner was born and raised in the Panhandle and is an expert on agriculture, trade, tax, and small business issues. He is a conservative Republican who worked for Senator Gramm as well as Senator John Cornyn advising them on key issues like agriculture and small business.

“I share President Trump’s vision for continuing American greatness, and we will take foreign and domestic threats to our country head-on,” said Winegarner. “China, Russia and OPEC are working to destroy our country from the outside, while Nancy Pelosi and her socialist squad are trying to cripple us from the inside with policies like the Green New Deal and Medicare for All. We won’t let that happen.”
