Luttrell, Colleagues Welcome President Trump at the Capitol for his State of the Union Address

Fighting for Veterans: Year after year, the suicide rate among our veterans continues to climb.

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, my congressional colleagues and I welcomed President Trump to the Capitol for his State of the Union Address.

The first year of the second Trump Administration has been about getting this country back on track – restoring law and order at our border, a strong military, and a resilient economy.  I was proud to hear the President lay it out clearly. America is stronger when we stand firm, secure our homeland, back the men and women who wear the uniform, and unleash the full strength of our economy.

It was also humbling to witness two Medals of Honor be bestowed by President Trump. Army Chief Warrant Officer 5 Eric Slover, one of the recipients, was wounded during January’s capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro as he heroically piloted a helicopter. Retired Navy Capt. E. Royce Williams, who is 100 years old and the other recipient, miraculously sustained more than 200 bullet strikes to his jet as he engaged in aerial combat during the Korean War. These two men are heroes, and I am pleased to see them both awarded the Medal of Honor.

The speech also saw our U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team celebrated for winning the gold medal in the 2026 Winter Olympics. Congratulations to both the men and women’s teams, as well as all our athletes, for representing Team USA in Italy.

As we move forward as a nation and build on the progress we’ve made, I look forward to continuing to partner with the President on real policies that lift up our veterans, communities, and fellow Americans.

Fighting for Veterans
Congress has poured millions upon millions of dollars into the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for suicide prevention over the years. And yet, year after year, the suicide rate among our veterans continues to climb.

That’s unacceptable. We are losing this battle — and we must reverse the trend.

Alongside Reps. Lou Correa (D-CA) and Jack Bergman (R-MI), we’ve been fighting in Congress to highlight the importance of alternative medical treatments such as emerging neuroplastogens that are highly effective. It’s paramount that we know why these approaches have not yet been approved by our federal government and what we can do to streamline them here in the United States for our veterans. This isn’t about politics. It’s about accountability. It’s about action.

One veteran who is lost to suicide is one too many. I will not stop demanding answers and sounding the alarm until we deliver the care our heroes need — and have earned through their sacrifice.

Recognizing Greatness
History was made this season in Magnolia. It’s the kind of story that reminds us exactly why investing in our younger generation matters.

For the first time, the Magnolia Junior High 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team completed a season as undefeated district champions — finishing with a perfect 10–0 record.

At a time when our nation is focused on preparing the next generation of leaders, these young men have shown what’s possible when students are challenged to rise to a higher standard and supported by coaches, parents, and a community that believes in them.

I was honored to recognize these individuals on the House floor and meet with them earlier this month to congratulate them on this grand achievement. I look forward to seeing the great things they will continue to accomplish in Magnolia and in life
