State Sen. José Menéndez: On Texas' 87th Legislative Session Committee Assignments

"The news of these committee assignments prove that working hard and well on behalf of all Texans, is rewarded with more work and additional opportunities to advocate for all."

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – San Antonio, Texas - State Senator José Menéndez issued the following statement on the announcement of the 87th Legislative Session Committee Assignments.

Senator José Menéndez released the following statement:
"We appreciate the opportunity to work for all of our constituents, and on behalf of all Texans. We are delighted to continue to serve on the Senate Committees on Administration, Business and Commerce, the revamped Intergovernmental Relations Committee now Local Government, and Redistricting.

"We are also excited to join the Senate Education Committee. Our priority is to have the safest schools in Texas for our parents, students, teachers and school personnel.

"With nearly 5.4 million children in public schools, we must prepare to make up for the nearly year loss of in-person learning due to COVID-19. In doing so, we must provide a well-rounded education without a focus on standardized tests.

"We spent last summer surveying our education stakeholders about the pandemic and received over 15,000 responses. We will also ensure our commitment to fund our public schools and close the digital divide. In addition, we look forward to advocating for our students with special needs and their families.

"Since local government is the closest to the people, the Local Government Committee is critical. It is important that we respect the decisions of local jurisdictions. We expect the Redistricting Committee will have regional hearings and we have been assured that it will be transparent and accessible. The news of these committee assignments prove that working hard and well on behalf of all Texans, is rewarded with more work and additional opportunities to advocate for all."
