Texas Insider Report: RIO GRANDE CITY Texas U.S. Customs & Border Protection announced that
Rio Grande City Border Patrol agents have apprehended 102 undocumented immigrants. The apprehension occurred when agents near Fronton Texas observed more than
80 individuals crossing the Rio Grande river in rafts. A few hours later the agents observed
another large group of individuals converge with the initial group.
Agents with the assistance of the Mobile Response Team pilots with Air & Marine Operations and
the Texas Department of Public Safetys Air Unit along with Rio Grande Valley Sector Riverine Units apprehended 102 illegal immigrants.
The immigrants consisted of 73 men 12 women and 17 juveniles.
Border Patrols inter-agency efforts technology and strong presence has fostered an environment where smugglers are hard pressed to sneak large groups of immigrants in desolate areas. Smugglers are ruthless and continuously place the lives of immigrants in danger.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) is part of
the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor which leverages federal state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. RGV Sector urges immigrants to not jeopardize their lives by illegally entering the United States or by attempting to circumvent a checkpoint.
U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CPB) is the unified border agency within
the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management control and protection of our nations borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
Officials have issued a strong condemnation of crossing the border illegally citing the dangerous practices of smugglers.
