
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) recently announced its hosting of the annual Historic Sites Free Day on Sunday May 16 at 19 of our States 20 historic properties. On this day visitors can enjoy regular programming and tours without having to pay an entry fee. Historic Sites Free Day is held in conjunction with the National Trust for Historic Preservation Month and the National and Texas Travel and Tourism Week from May 816.
Celebrate local Texas history by traversing the azalea-strewn grounds of the
Starr Family Home in Marshall or walk in the footsteps of soldiers that served at
Fort McKavett a site once described by General Sherman as the prettiest post in Texas.
Fulton Mansion the beautiful Victorian home presiding over Aransas Bay will be highlighting the 200th birthday of its namesake George Fulton. From military strongholds to house museums plantations and Native American settlements these state historic sites offer visitors the opportunity to truly experience the real places of Texas and the stories they preserve.
