width=107Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas (March 24 2011) To ensure adequate funding for Texas water infrastructure the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is participating in the Environmental Protection Agencys fifth survey of public drinking water system capital needs.  The Drinking Water Infrastructure Needs Survey began February 16 2011.  In partnership with the EPA and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality the TWDB will collect information from public water systems throughout 2011.  Results of the survey will determine the percentage of money Texas receives for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.  Approximately 150 drinking water systems have been chosen to complete the survey and comprehensive inclusion of their information will represent all drinking water systems in the state of Texas.  Information collected through the survey includes new construction system repairs pipeline replacement and major equipment purchases that water systems will need over the next 20 years in order to provide ample quality drinking water to their customers. This needs survey is no small undertaking and water system participation is critical to the success of the survey. EPA uses this estimate of need to allocate the DWSRF money between the states.  The more projects Texas can document the greater our share of the funds. If your system is included in the survey your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Drinking water is a serious issue in Texas and its importance grows each year as supplies grow scarce and existing infrastructure ages.  With the unsteadiness of our economy drought dwindling water supply and an increasing population Texas needs all the resources it can receive.  Working together we can ensure Texas has the water resources needed for a prosperous future. Attached is a list of public water systems included in the 2011 Drinking Water Infrastructure Needs Survey. The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data assisting with regional planning and preparing the State Water Plan for the development of the states water resources.  The TWDB administers cost-effective financial programs for the construction of water supply wastewater treatment flood control and agricultural water conservation projects.
