$23 Million in Texas Appliance Rebates Available

Take Advantage of Texas Trade Up Appliance Rebate Program   bbbAustin TX Beginning Monday April 5 2010 at 7am Texas consumers can reserve rebates for purchasing energy efficient appliances. The Texas Trade Up Appliance Rebate Program is supported by the US Department of Energy with approximately $23 million in stimulus funds. Qualifying purchases must be made from April 16 to April 25 2010 and BBB serving Central Coastal and Southwest Texas advises consumers on how to take advantage of the savings.   Because of the potential to save money demand for appliance rebates may be high" said Carrie A. Hurt President and CEO of BBB serving Central Coastal and Southwest Texas. Consumers need to know the facts about the program to avoid potential fraud schemes."   According to energystar.gov the typical household spends more than $2200 annually on energy bills but could save about $700 per year by making the switch to ENERGY STAR certified appliances. In 2008 about 55 percent of new major household appliances had the ENERGY STAR seal.   BBB offers consumers the following tips for safely reserving their rebates and making qualifying purchases:   Reserve your rebate by phone or online. Visit www.texaspowerfulsmart.org or call 1-877-780-3039 starting April 5th at 7am central time to fill out or request a rebate application form or have one sent to them. Consumers do not have to select a specific appliance manufacturer or model at that time however rebates are on a first come first served basis.   Retailers cannot reserve rebates on behalf of consumers. Beware of any business that offers to submit a rebate reservation.   Only one rebate is allowed per category. Consumers can receive a maximum of two rebates if they are not in the same appliance category.   Take advantage of existing programs. For some consumers not able to reserve a rebate the federal government and many state governments already provide tax credits for purchasing ENERGY STAR certified appliances and more than 25 states have recycling programs.
