Rep. Alonzo Urges Residents to Save Money Conserve Energy & Take Advantage of Appliances over the Memorial Holiday Weekend
Texas Insider Report AUSTIN Texas - As the Memorial Holiday approaches Texas State Representative Roberto R. Alonzo joins our Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Susan Combs in promoting the Fourth Annual ENERGY STAR Sales Tax Holiday Weekend which extends from Saturday through Monday May 28-30 2011 all over Texas. The most amazing thing is that you can save dollars and conserve energy at the same time by purchasing qualified ENERGY STAR appliances when you take advantage of this 3-day tax-free Memorial Holiday weekend.
If you ever needed any appliances around the house this is a great time of year for Texans to purchase a new energy efficient air conditioner refrigerator dishwasher or other major appliances Alonzo said.
During the upcoming three-day holiday which runs over the Memorial Holiday weekend from Saturday through Monday May 28-30 Texas shoppers can take advantage of a great bargain and save money while at the same time conserving energy.
And the best part of it all is that shoppers do not have to pay state and local sales and use taxes on certain energy efficient products said State Rep. Alonzo.
The tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday May 28 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday May 30.
The tax holiday applies only to the following appliances and household equipment bearing an ENERGY STAR label:
- air conditioners priced less than $6000
Refrigerators priced less than $2000
- Ceiling fans
- Incandescent & fluorescent light bulbs
- Clothes washers
- Dishwashers
- Dehumidifiers
- Programmable thermostats
- along with installation & delivery charges for these products.
According to Comptroller Combs: Much of Texas is currently suffering from severe drought and summertime temperatures have arrived early reminding us of the need to conserve Texas precious resources…You can save water and energy by purchasing efficient ENERGY STAR appliances. And during the ENERGY STAR Sales Tax Holiday you wont pay state or local sales taxes on your new appliances.
As the Memorial Holiday approaches it serves as a reminder that our scorching summer temperatures are right around the corner. Summer does not officially start until June 21 but already we are starting to see close to 100 degree days. And of course that means that utilities will undoubtedly rise as we consume

more energy to use our AC units refrigerators and other appliances that will force us to stay indoors and away from the hot sun.
By purchasing energy-efficient ENERGY STAR-rated appliances you may be able save money while at the same time conserving energy. I urge everyone to
look into this money-saving program continued Rep. Alonzo.
