ABBOTT: Court OK’s Texas Redistricting Maps for 2014 Elections

No basis to block use of 2013 Texas Maps in upcoming elections.

Greg Abbott4Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – The San Antonio Federal Court currently giving hearings ruled earlier this afternoon ruled there was no basis to block the use of the 2013 Texas Redistricting Maps in upcoming elections, and that the redistricting maps passed by the Texas Legislature in the Special Session earlier this year should be used for the 2014 Elections. “The State will continue to respond in court to the unwarranted challenges to the new maps by the Obama Administration and various plaintiff groups,” said Lauren Bean, spokeswoman for Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s Office after the Court’s ruling was announced.

“Texas has prevailed each time the redistricting litigation has reached the Supreme Court, and remains confident that the Legislature’s maps will be vindicated, either at the San Antonio federal district court or at the U.S. Supreme Court, if necessary,” Bean said.

“We are pleased that the court agreed to allow the 2014 elections to proceed on time using the new maps drawn by the Legislature. That certainty benefits all Texans,” said Bean, spokeswoman for the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
