The McCaul Minute – From Congressman Michael McCaul
The Boarder Secutiry Results Act
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, DC – AT RIGHT: Chairman McCaul speaks with members of the Washington press corps after presenting his border security bill to a meeting of all House Republicans last week. H.R. 1417, the Border Security Results Act, which passed the Homeland Security Committee unanimously, could receive a vote on the House floor shortly after the August recess.

FAARM Bill
The House passed and I supported the first farm bill in decades to focus solely on agriculture programs. The Federal Agriculture and Risk Management (FARRM) Act ends direct payment subsidies, consolidates or eliminates dozens of government programs and saves billions of dollars. The FARRM Act will bring economic certainty and stability to Texas farmers and ranchers who our nation depends on for our food supply. The bill also completely split out the nutrition title, which was included in the original bill that failed the House last month.
Giuliani Testifies at Boston Hearing
Last week I chaired the second hearing into the Boston Marathon Bombings examining the common vulnerabilities in the last several terrorist attacks in the U.S. including Boston, Fort Hood, Times Square and the Underwear Bomber. Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani testified the administration’s inability to define the threat of Islamist extremism remains a national security threat, as does the lack of information sharing that continues since 9/11. The Committee has specific questions related to events leading up to the Boston attack that the FBI has not been forthcoming in providing answers. This investigation will not stop until it is complete.
Vote to Expand Dredging at Port of Houston
Last week I voted for and the House passed legislation that will provide over $1 billion in funding for dredging and harbor maintenance, including at the Port of Houston.
For years, Congress has repeatedly raided the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund (HMTF), which was established for the sole purpose of funding the operation and maintenance of ports, to pay for unrelated activities. The result is that funding for dredging at the Port of Houston, and other ports around the country, has been inadequate, threatening jobs and commerce. As the Panama Canal expansion project continues, it is critical that the Port of Houston is properly dredged in order to accommodate larger ships and remain competitive.
