AFP-TX On Budget Deal: More Overspending is Unacceptable

peggy-venableTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas — This morning AFP-Texas, the state’s foremost advocate for economic freedom, issued a statement as details of a budget deal from the Budget Conference Committee continue to emerge.

State Director Peggy Venable had this to say:

“Congress made a bipartisan promise two years ago to get spending under control. The modest cuts scheduled under the Budget Control Act should have produced a spending resolution at $967 billion or lower. A trillion-dollar backroom deal coming out of this Congress would be nothing but another broken promie. It is alarming that as we near $17 trillion in national debt, Congress continues looking for ways to spend today and pay later. We are leaving our children and grandchildren a legacy of spending and debt. That is simply unacceptable.
“Policies are more important than any individual lawmaker, and we must hold even our friends accountable for bad decisions. Our activists will be letting their Congressional members know this deal is unacceptable.”
