After House Votes to Remove IRS from Obamacare, Cornyn Calls for Senate Vote

cornyn-floorTexas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to allow a vote on the “Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act of 2013,” his bill to prohibit the Secretary of the Treasury, or any delegate, including the IRS, from enforcing Obamacare. Identical legislation sponsored by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) passed the House of Representatives today. Last night Sen. Cornyn went to the Senate floor to call up the bill, but Senate Democrats objected.

“The Obama Administration wants to use this tax agency to administer a massive new entitlement program affecting one sixth of our national economy. To me that sounds like another recipe for disaster.

After the abuses and mismanagement that have come to light, it is clear we must prevent the IRS from having any role in Americans’ health care. I cannot support giving the IRS any responsibility or taxpayer dollars to implement this broken law.”

Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance and Judiciary Committees.  He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee.
