John Cornyn (R-Texas) a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and former Texas Attorney General met today with Annette Burrhus-Clay Executive Director of the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault to brief her on the Cornyn Justice for Victims Amendment:
Annette and TAASA have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and give a face to so many Texas victims. Im grateful for their support and look forward to partnering with them in our effort to combat the unacceptably high backlogs of untested rape kits across Texas and the nation."
The legislation which has been endorsed by both national and Texas victims-rights groups will help alleviate the massive backlog of untested rape kits as well as toughen sentencing for some of the worst sex offenders who commit crimes against women and children. Sen. Cornyns effort comes in advance of National Crime Victims Rights week which runs from April 22 28 2012. Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance Judiciary Armed Services and Budget Committees.  He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committees Immigration Refugees and Border Security subcommittee.
