(AUSTIN TX) As Texans observe the one year anniversary of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Organizing For AmericaTexas welcomes Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez and DOD Recovery Act Resources Coordinator Sandra Richardson to the Lone Star State.
Their visits taking place all this week will highlight just a few of the over 9000 projects right here in Texas. With over $12 billion being invested in Texas alone it is clear the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has worked to stabilize economic conditions and help those harmed by the economic crisis in Texas and across the rest of the nation.
When President Obama took office just over a year ago the economy nationwide was losing nearly 800000 jobs a month banks were in crisis and lending was frozen - 11 trillion dollars in wealth had been lost" said Luke Hayes Texas State Director for Organizing for America. Since the Recovery Act was passed one year ago over $12 billion has been invested right here in the Lone Star State allowing Texans to breathe a little easier knowing their economy is turning around."
Currently of the funds announced Texas stands to receive the fourth most money. The over $12 billion announced has kept teachers in the classroom police officers on the street and put people back to work rebuilding our crumbling roads bridges and waterways. Additionally the largest Recovery Act project in the nation is in Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex where Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez will attend the ground breaking ceremony this Wednesday February 17th.
While there is still much to be done in order to improve and strengthen our economy it is clear the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has helped bring our economy back from the brink of collapse and will continue to invest real money in Texas" added Hayes. Because of these investments and projects Texans have seen firsthand the benefits of President Obamas bold legislation."
