“Texas is far too dependant on natural gas the prices of which have been very volatile. Texas needs to diversify its generation mix and is working now to do so. We lead the nation in wind power and have more wind-generated megawatts in this state than in almost the entire world” Venable said.

“Utilities have every right to base their rates on the cost they are paying for the means to generate electricity” Venable said. “Under the old monopoly system utilities had to participate in expensive and lengthy rate cases before rates would be lowered.  Today utilities are lowering prices right now.”
