By Congressman John Culberson

This weeks victory in Massachusetts was a referendum on the liberal agenda. The results confirmed the publics visceral reaction against government takeover of health care
and the liberals record spending spree. It is time to let Americans keep more of what they earn and for the government to spend less.
Last year the liberal majority spent more money in less time than any Congress in the history of the United States. The American people spoke out across the country and forcefully said Stop the spending!"
Instead of listening the Democrats chose to ignore the American people and shut them out of the process.
This week Senate Democrats proposed increasing our national debt limit by a record $1.9 trillion. This increase would raise the nations credit limit to $14.3 trillion making our accumulated debt about the size of the overall U.S. economy.
The White House issued a statement calling this debt increase critically important" but I believe the presidents priorities are misplaced.
What is critically important is that we stop spending money we dont have.
The United States is facing an urgent fiscal crisis that threatens our economic security and our very survival as a nation. The total unfunded liabilities for the

United States are $62 trillion which exceeds the collective net worth of Americans.
As a staunch fiscal conservative I have consistently opposed spending increases regardless of who occupied the Oval Office and will continue to do so again this year. The federal government must learn to live within its means - just like American families.
I believe that in taking these steps our economy will experience the growth and prosperity that have defined America for generations.
