For us to take him lightly would be the worst mistake in the world said the former head of the House Democratic Caucus and Connecticut Congressman John Larson.
Ive been saying for months that we should never take Trump lightly and that I do think he especially has appeal to independents and blue-collar Democrats…
Democrats appear to be increasingly nervous that a general election battle with Donald Trump at the top of the GOP ticket wont be so easy that his populist appeal could chip away support from the partys stalwart base of working-class voters. He comes along and says Im a deal maker Im about getting the deal done. And theyre so fed up with seeing nothing getting done and they want to see him act on the issues that strike to the core of their feelings said Larson.
Its a far different perspective than voiced just weeks ago by leading Democrats including Vice President Joe Biden who said in January either Trump or Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on the November ballot would be a gift from the Lord. Democrats may be right to be afraid should Hillary Clinton become the Democratic nominee leaving working class voters to choose between Donald Trump a candidate committed to bringing back American jobs and Hillary Clinton a candidate who gives six figure speeches at Goldman Sachs and is under continued FBI investigation over her controversial emails and server problems. As Bernie Sanders persistently continues to highlight Clintons high roller hypocrisy this choice could easily become easier and easier or problematic for national Democrats. Has Mitt Romneys Establishment Push Hurt Donald Trump? A new poll released Monday suggests that former Gov. Mitt Romneys high-profile speech last week condemning Donald Trump and calling on Republicans to unite against him only served to increase enthusiasm for Trumps candidacy. In a speech delivered at the University of Utah Romney denounced Trump as a phony" and a fraud" who is playing members of the American public for suckers." Romney called on Republican voters to rally behind whichever candidate is Trumps biggest threat in a particular state apparently in the hopes of forcing a brokered Republican convention. The vast majority of Republicans are either ignoring or openly defying Romneys advice according to the poll. Conducted by Morning Consult the poll found that:- 31 of Republican voters were more likely to support Trump after Romneys speech
- While only 20 were less likely.
- 34 said Romneys speech made no difference
