Texas Insider Report: CORPUS CHRISTI Texas Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott joined state local and federal law enforcement officers in Corpus Christi for the Regional Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony. As the keynote speaker at the fifth annual memorial ceremony the Attorney General expressed the States gratitude for peace officers selfless commitment to protecting and serving the public.
Delivering the address before an audience that also included community leaders local officials and fallen peace officers family members Attorney General Abbott paid tribute to Coastal Bend peace officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the line of duty.
Ever since President John F. Kennedy established the first national Peace Officers Memorial Day grateful citizens across this great land have joined grieving family members and surviving colleagues to remember the sacrifice of these brave officers" Attorney General Abbott said. The gratitude we feel today is shared by people throughout Nueces County and across this great country. These heroes are not with us in body but they are always in our hearts and in our thoughts."
Attorney General Abbott concluded: Today we pause to remember and to rededicate ourselves to support those who support us each and every day."
After Attorney General Abbott finished his tribute to fallen officers Corpus Christi Police Chief Troy Riggs Port of Corpus Christi Police Chief H.E. Archambo Nueces County Sheriff Jim Kaelin and Nueces County Constable Precinct 1 Rudy Casares read the names of the 21 Nueces County officers who were killed in the line of duty last year.
The Regional Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony reflected a tribute of tradition and prayer including a 21-gun salute Amazing Grace" Taps" and the placement of remembrance wreaths honoring the fallen officers who selflessly sacrificed their lives while serving and protecting their communities.
