Representative Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) along with many Latino leaders feel that the bill unfairly targets minorities. Anchia further believes and some Republican strategists agree that this bill will end up doing more harm than good to the Republican party.
The Latino community is not stupid said Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) You cant call us fat ugly and stupid for a year and then ask us to go to the prom with you. Its just not going to happen.
Latinos will have a broadening influence on future elections and this type of bill when viewed alongside the rhetoric and tone of the Republicans may have a net negative effect on gaining Latino support.
The criticism however may be overblown. Last year the University of Texas Government Department released a statewide poll asking respondents whether they agreed or disagreed with the idea that registered voters should be required to present a government-issued photo ID at the polls before they can be allowed to vote." Sixty-nine percent of respondents said they agreed.
It is certain that such a bill could and apparently is causing people groups to feel targeted. However lets not be too quick overlook the fact or possibility that many good things do not come without modification. Perhaps a bill created with good intentions just has some kinks to still work out.
