Austin Protests Slated Today Over Texas Budget Crunch

width=153Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas  The Texas State Employees Union in coordination with Texas Forward a coalition of organizations seeking a balanced approach to the Texas State Budget has organized protests today at the state Capitol in Austin that they say will bring 1000s of people from over 70 Texas cities.  Organizers say protesters will meet with legislators demand the state budget reflects the priorities of Texans including funds for education services for the elderly & families as well as treating state workers with respect & dignity.  

Protesters are expected to gather at the State Capitol building to urge lawmakers to take a stand and save our state.

On Sunday  after more than 20 hours of passionate debate over the course of two days the Texas House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly without raising taxes to pass a balanced state budget for the 2012 -2013 biennium thereby meeting its state constitutional obligation to do so.

Protest organizers say the Texas House passed a budget that cut billions of dollars from education healthcare social services public safety and mental health.

Legislators have stated that while families across the state are struggling to width=118balance their own checkbooks Texas needs to do the same.

Many ran successful campaigns in which they promised to without raising taxes balance the State Budget for 2012 -2013.

Public & Higher Education receives over half of all General Revenue in the House passed version of the budget
