Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Axis Pipe and Tube Inc. has partnered with Blinn College to provide customized training for new and incumbent employees using a $115145 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
Axis Pipe and Tube opened in Bryan in 2014 to manufacture electric resistance welded energy tubular products. The grant will be used to custom train 189 new and incumbent workers on safety procedures forklift operation basic computing and ultrasonic testing. Those trained will include welders quality control specialists engineers and machinists. Upon completion of training the workers will receive an average wage of $18.63.

From the programs inception in 1996 through 2014 Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 316000 jobs throughout Texas. The grants have assisted 4074 employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature allocated nearly $48 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2014-15 biennium.
