Bill Expedites Search Warrants for Information Against Child Predators

john-frulloTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas In an effort to expedite the issuance of search warrants to gather evidence needed to prosecute child predators State Representative John Frullo (R-Lubbock) has filed House Bill 2268. House Bill 2268 allows Texas Judges to issue search warrants for certain stored electronic communications beyond the states physical boundaries. These items are key pieces of evidence for prosecuting those involved in internet crimes against children. Under current law Frullo said Texas judges ability to order a search ends at the state line. In our technology-driven society this limitation hampers law enforcements efforts to go after the evidence needed to prosecute those who commit these horrible crimes and exploit our children. With this bill Texas joins a growing number of states who have realized the need to streamline the process of obtaining this time-sensitive information. States with these laws currently in place have also found them to be helpful in decreasing bureaucratic red tape when going after internet predators. By allowing a Texas judge to order the search as opposed to relying on a judge in another state with no vested interest in the case evidence of inappropriate communication with a child can be gathered more expeditiously. Florida California and Minnesota have already done this Frullo said referring to states that have enacted statutes that enable the use of current long-arm jurisdiction laws. It is important that Texas be added to that list. Predators are hurting exploiting and assaulting our children through the use of the internet. That needs to stop!
