Grassroots Tool Engages Business Community and Employees in Political Dialogue

width=130Austin TX – The Business & Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC) has partnered with the Texas business community to deploy the Texas Prosperity Project (TXP2) at www.txprosperity.com.  The collaborative project seeks to improve Texas’ business climate by educating and engaging business leaders and their employees.  The goal is to influence government policies and programs and strengthen the state’s economy.

TXP2’s program utilizes the newly-launched website to reach its statewide grassroots advocacy network--a database of local chamber members and business leaders- with non-partisan information about issues affecting businesses as well as tools to help them participate in the democratic process.

The Prosperity Project is an excellent source of information on candidates for public office and their perspectives on matters that impact business.” said Gray Mayes Public Affairs Director at Texas Instruments and current Chair of the Texas Prosperity Project. “Its user-friendly format and content serve to both educate employees and facilitate their participation in the electoral process.

By signing up on the website visitors become members of TXP2’s grassroots advocacy network.  They will receive customized e-mail alerts on candidates ballot initiatives and legislation of interest to them -- such as health care taxes tort reform workers’ compensation immigration compliance and general business regulation.  The site also helps users register to vote learn about Texas politics identify elected officials and contact policymakers by phone e-mail or traditional postal mail.

After the 2006 elections BIPAC studies indicated more than 70 percent of employees felt their employer provided the most credible source of information on issues affecting their jobs and their industries.  TXP2 will aid this communication by allowing companies to brand their websites and alerts with their company logo and distribute the information to workers.

“TXP2 provides a non-biased non-partisan resource for voters” said Stephanie S. Simpson Executive Director of TXP2.  “TXP2 provides the necessary information about candidates and issues affecting jobs and the state’s economy.  Our goal is to not only increase voter turnout but to provide the information voters need to make informed decisions when they cast their ballots.”

TXP2 is one of more than two dozen states nationwide to deploy BIPAC’s Prosperity Project as a pro-business political toolkit.  Local chambers of commerce and trade associations across Texas have signed on as partners in the initiative and have urged their members to actively participate.
