Border Fence Cancellation Disappointing to Border Trade Alliance

width=80Texas Insider Report: SAN ANTONIO Texas  In light of last weeks decision the Border Trade Alliance looks forward to hearing the Obama Administrations plan for improving border security staffing levels & technology" said Nelson Balido the Border Trade Alliances president following the Department of Homeland Securitys decision to cancel the SBInet program widely known as the virtual fence".   As someone who has had the opportunity to visit with Border Patrol agents where the system is deployed I am concerned that this decision could deny agents in the field access to the technological tools that allow them to do their jobs more effectively and more safely. The Border Trade Alliance was disappointed to learn of the Department of Homeland Securitys decision to cancel the SBInet program.  We recognize that the program has faced significant challenges in its brief history but we had grown more confident that the government and the contractor had made significant progress in their shared goal of securing the U.S.-Mexico border. I am encouraged that DHS has said that its new plan will incorporate already existing elements of the former SBInet program that have proven successful such as stationary radar and infrared and optical sensor towers.  This technology works and it should be deployed as quickly as possible where planning is already in advanced stages using existing appropriated funds." Balido said.
