Border Security: Cong. Lamar Smith Pushes Troops & Operational Control

Requires control of U.S.-Mexico border; makes 10000 National Guard available Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. - While all eyes focus on the Senates Immigration Reform efforts this week  the U.S. House of Representatives Immigration Reform Caucus earlier this month introduced the Support More Assets Resources & Technology on the Border Act (SMART Border Act) to require the Department of Homeland Security to secure the U.S.-Mexico border within one year. The SMART Border Act responds to what the American people have made clear they want: secured borders and enforcement of immigration laws" said Congressman Lamar Smith.   The SMART Border Act (H.R. 2220) also requires operational control of the U.S.-Mexico border within one year of enactment and makes 10000 National Guard troops available for deployment for border control activities on the request of border state governors.
