Liberal politicians on Capitol Hill are set to unveil a massive new tax today that will hit the entire American economy and every single consumer. The legislation would create a cap and trade" scheme for carbon dioxide emissions. In the process it would impose tremendous costs on businesses and those costs would be passed along to you.
Everyone would pay this new tax. Turn on a light switch and you will pay. Put gas in your car and you will pay. President Obamas budget assumes the cap and tax" scheme will raise $650 billion in new climate revenue." But privately White House aides have told Capitol Hill staffers that cap and tax" could tax as much as $2 trillion dollars out of the economy!
With many economists predicting that this recession will last months if not well into next year and unemployment reaching double digits why are Democrats pushing what has been called the largest tax increase in American history"? Heres one reason.
The United Nations is gearing up for the sequel to the Kyoto protocol a global warming treaty that the Bush Administration refused to sign. Kyoto II" has been scheduled to take place at a conference this December in Copenhagen Denmark and the Obama Administration is fully supportive of its agenda. Fox News analyzed the cap and trade" plan being floated at the United Nations in advance of the Copenhagen conference. Heres an excerpt:
A United Nations document on climate change that will be distributed to a major environmental conclave next week envisions a huge reordering of the world economy likely involving trillions of dollars in wealth transfer millions of job losses and gains new taxes industrial relocations new tariffs and subsidies and complicated payments for greenhouse gas abatement schemes and carbon taxes all under the supervision of the world body."
Trillions of dollars in wealth transfer. Millions of job losses. New taxes new tariffs more government subsidies. And liberal politicians are laying the foundations for it right now in our nations capital.
Warning From Israel
President Obama landed in England today for important meetings with G20 leaders. The meetings could be tough Europe is resisting pressure from the White House to follow our lead and spend hundreds of billions of additional dollars. But as important as the London meeting is the bigger news may be coming out of Israel today where Benjamin Netanyahu was sworn in as Prime Minister.
As he was being sworn in an interview Netanyahu gave a few weeks ago was released by Atlantic Magazine. In it the Israeli prime minister makes it clear that he believes a nuclear-armed Iran would be a disaster not only for Israel but also for the United States and the world. Using blunt language Netanyahu asserted You dont want a messianic apocalyptic cult controlling atomic bombs. When the wide-eyed believer gets hold of the reins of power and the weapons of mass death then the entire world should start worrying and that is what is happening in Iran." Hes right. Is Obama listening?
No More War On Terror"
Todays Wall Street Journal reports that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is no longer using the phrase global war on terror." In fact according to Hillary the entire administration has stopped using the phrase. Well if the global war on terror has come to an end Baitullah Mehsud evidently didnt get the memo.
Fox News reports that Mehsud the Taliban commander in Pakistan is planning an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world." Mehsud reportedly identified the White House as a target. Terrorism experts insist Mehsuds warning should not be taken lightly. He was connected to the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and a bombing that killed scores of people in Islamabad last year. There is a $5 million bounty on his head but Mehsud isnt worried. He told the Associated Press I wish to die and embrace martyrdom."
Ive never been a fan of the phrase war on terror" because it doesnt identify the enemy responsible for the man-caused disasters" (aka terrorism") that our new Secretary of Homeland Security now refers to. But I am far less enthusiastic about the administrations repeated attempts to be politically correct and inoffensive to our Islamofascist enemy. Appeasement doesnt work and words dont win wars.
