Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas We are half way through the Legislative Session which ends on May 30th. The Texas Consitution limits the amount of time the legislature can meet and consider bills so most activity occurs in the second half of the session. I have authored nearly 40 bills and resolutions and signed on as a co or joint author to 50 others. Here are a few of the bills and resolutions I am working to pass:
Improving County Roads- HB 2259
Development of the Eagle Ford shale means our county roads are being used beyond capacity. HB 2259 sets aside funding for counties to maintain update and repair roadways.
Fighting Corruption- HB 1638
District Attorneys who are under investigation for a criminal matter may investigate themselves. This poses a conflict of interest. HB 1638 changes the law to appoint an outside investigator.
Continuing Service at Campbellton Post Office- HR 523
The US Postal Service is considering closure of the Campbellton Post Office. This is unfair to the taxpaying citizens of Atascosa County. HR 523 honors the post office and urges the United States Congress to keep it open.
Local Control of Education- HB 500
Our education system is burdened by mandates set in Austin. HB 500 allows local school officials teachers and parents to make the best decisions for their districts.
