Carter Again Opposes Bailout

width=65Washington D.C. – U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) House Conference Secretary made the following statement today after opposing the Wall Street Bailout bill for the second time in five days.

“Today I again opposed a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street because the only thing that was added between Monday and today was more spending.  Rather than take the effort to write a bill that could garner wide support in both Congress and among the American people we were forced to vote for a second time on the same flawed bill that has now been loaded down with pork.

I was part of a working group that provided alternatives to this plan that we were not allowed to consider.  My hope was that we could find an alternative that did not result in Main Street footing the bill.  Unfortunately that was not the case.

“While I do not agree that this bill was the correct course of action I along with every American will now hope that the plan works.  As we navigate the rough waters we still face I will work tirelessly to make sure that not only do we survive these tough times but also ensure that this never happens again.”
