Washington D.C. – U.S. Representative John Carter (Round Rock) will join Lowe’s representatives to announce Texas’ first ENERGY STAR tax-free shopping holiday May 24-26. The event will take place Friday May 16 at 3:30 p.m. CST at the Lowe’s store located at 120 Sundance Pkwy in Round Rock.
Texans can purchase qualified ENERGY STAR products to take advantage of the sales tax break including air conditioners priced under $6000 clothes washers refrigerators priced under $2000 dishwashers dehumidifiers ceiling fans incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs and programmable thermostats.
Quick facts about ENERGY STAR qualified products
• If you select an ENERGY STAR qualified air conditioner instead of a regular one you can cut your cooling costs by 10 percent.
• Replacing a refrigerator manufactured prior to 1993 with a new ENERGY STAR qualified one can save you more than $55 a year on your energy bill.
• An ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washer can cut utility bills by an average of $50 a year.
• Ceiling fan/light combination units that have earned the ENERGY STAR seal are about 50 percent more efficient than conventional models.
