Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas As the daughter of someone who lost two siblings to an intoxicated driving incident I know how big of an issue this is to the citizens of Texas said State Rep. Stefani Carter (Dallas) about her legislation permanently revoking a persons drivers license on his or her 5th conviction related to the operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The State of Texas should not continue to grant those convicted numerous times of DWI the privilege of driving on our public roads. Doing so is bad public policy - and presents a danger said Carter.
Under the bill individuals will still be eligible to obtain an occupational license which permits them to drive for work-related purposes educational purposes and for essential household errands. This exemption allows individuals to remain active and productive citizens.
This is not Carters first bill aimed at protecting Texas citizens from intoxicated drivers.
Carter is also the joint author of House Bill 506 which requires first-time DWI offenders to have an ignition interlock device also known as a breathalyzer installed in their vehicle as a condition of community supervision. Carter is also the author of House Bill 982 which provides penalties for DWI offenders who fail to install and maintain an ignition

interlock device.
Carter is serving her first term representing House District 102 which includes parts of the cities of Dallas Richardson and Garland.
She is a native of the Dallas area and a former prosecutor.
