width=65Washington DC – House Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31) joined President Bush at the White House as he signed the bipartisan economic growth package into law. Carter made the following statement:

“This stimulus package will give our economy the quick jolt it needs by putting money directly back into the hands of the American people and giving small business critical tax cuts that create incentives for new jobs.

“The fastest way to keep our economy on the rising slope is to allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money. Although this is a start in the right direction we must continue to push for broad tax relief for all working Americans. Texans know that the last thing they need is a higher tax bill and I will continue to fight for additional tax relief for middle-class Americans and small businesses-the very backbone of this economy.”

The temporary economic growth plan that passed this afternoon includes rebates of $300 to $1200 for 117 million American families as well as $150 billon in tax relief for small businesses.
