Carter Wishes U.S. Army Happy 237th Birthday

House Army Caucus Chairman John Carter (R-TX31) today wished the U.S. Army a happy 237th birthday to commemorate the Armys founding width=71by Act of Congress on June 14 1775.   Carter and Caucus Co-Chairman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX16) gave speeches in honor of the celebration last week on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Click here to watch Carter and Reyes on the House floor Carter said this years celebration is especially noteworthy in light of the Armys successful transfer of power and return from Iraq. The past decade has proven the Army as a leader in the war against terrorism tyrannical leadership and oppression in the Middle East" said Carter.  Our Army has given countless millions of people hope for their future while at the same time making America a more secure nation. Your actions on and off the field of battle have and will continue to inspire us all for generations to come." Reyes reminded the nation of the Armys extended combat duty over the last decade along with our soldiers historical sacrifice.  Our Army has been at war for over ten years.  It is battle tested and proven.  Our Army is over one million strong composed of some of Americas most outstanding individuals.  Today we take a moment to recognize the men and women who selflessly served our Army the past 237 years especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom and way of life.   We pause to thank our Soldiers and their families for their service and commitment which remains steadfast and strong." The 131-member bipartisan House Army Caucus is chaired this session by Carter and Reyes.   Carter represents the Fort Hood area in the House.
