Celebrating 100 Years Working with Hispanic Communities

AmericanflagBy Joseph Romero In 1910 my great grandfather Don Ramon Romero Ordorica  historian at University of Zacatecas was named Governor of the State of Zacatecas by President Porfirio Diaz who was equivalent of Spanish Dictator Francisco Franco.  His son Alfonso Romero Villagrana decided to join the revolutionary army and became a Villista" (Pro Villa) by shouting Viva Villa! This small yet profound event took place in April 1910 at the heart of the Aguascalientes State Fair demonstrated his fearless passion for democracy. Alfonso Romero was immediately taken to prison by the federal troops for execution at dawn. Fortunately for Mr. Romero the Governor of Aguascalientes was his personal friend and freed him during the night. The Governor sent Mr. Romero back to Zacatecas. Pancho Villas Dorados" (Special Forces) told General Villa about this incident. Impressed by Alfonso Romeros action of courage General Villa sent some of his undercover revolutionaries to visit him at the Governors mansion of his father to deliver a Silver Revolver" with his appointment as a Colonel for the Revolutionary Army. This is how Mr. Romero joined Villas forces where he remained a Villista" until the end of the Mexican Revolution in 1917.   The Mexican Revolution was commemorated in 1929 by Mexican President Portes Gil with the beginning of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (P.R.I.) and recognized Mr. Romero as one of the founders of the P.R.I. Party. This recognition allowed him the glory to celebrate every year the victory of democracy. Mr. Romero became a Judge in Zacatecas Attorney General in Aguascalientes and later in his life Minister of Justice for the Mexican Government in Mexico City. This is the City where I lived with him and had many conversations with him on various subjects and lessons in life. I also was fortunate to discover and learn about his many adventures during the revolution. But the most important aspect of those early conversations with him was his enduring love of and for his countrymen. Today 100 years later in Dallas I conduct marketing promotions and research where I constantly interact with Hispanic families. Sometimes I will encounter families from Zacatecas and perhaps their great grandparents fought along my grandfather who possibly died for the same reason when he shouted Viva Villa!"  My marketing research continues to find the same spirit of love for country; whether it is for Mexico or The United States of America! This is how Mexican immigrants play an important role in my work and my life. Now we are facing paradigmic times" with 47 million Hispanics and The State of Texas with the largest Hispanic populated counties in the country. The Hispanic population growth is a phenomenon and with a cross-road fast approaching. This phenomenon has inspired me since 1982 in creating Hispanic marketing seminars that not only bring awareness about how to sell to the Hispanic communities" but most important carry a mission in helping our Hispanic high school graduates to continue their education via Community College.  Today some Hispanic youth have develop a sense of not worthy of college" however a community college environment would allow the opportunity to develop careers before they give up on their American Dream!" Please consider the following statistic as I quote well known marketing writer John Bradley Jackson;

With nearly 80 million baby boomers driving our current economy but with 330 of them turning 60 each hour meanwhile the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a labor force of 162.3 million individuals in 2012 while the economy will require 165.3 million jobs to be filled. Who is going to fill those jobs?"

This is the cross-road which is fast approaching. Who will fill those jobs?" However let us not forget of the spirit of my great-grand relatives The enduring love of and for our Country: United States of America!" I never had a chance to ask my grand father if he had ever read about WEST POINT.  I have to believe he would have quoted the WEST POINT motto which is inscription on campus: DUTY HONOR COUNTRY". The burning spirit of the Love for Our Country which is in the hearts of many needs to be spread into our youth. DUTY HONOR COUNTRY will enable our youth to cross the road for a better tomorrow: for all of us! On October 1st several D-FW area Hispanic Chambers of Commerce will join together to host a Summit" under the program of: HISPANIC MARKETING & SALES MEGATRENDS 2010" At this summit we will launch a Community College Scholarship program for Hispanic High School Students presented by Christopher R. Coppola President of C. R. Coppola Productions. The seminar will be held at the Hackberry Creek Country Club in Irving Texas. Also there will be presentations on the latest methodologies in reaching the US Hispanic markets recognition to several Fortune 500 corporations and CEOs .
