Classroom Ads Showing Around Texas

Airing in Dallas Houston Amarillo Lubbock El Paso markets     width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Beginning Wednesday ads will be running around the state taking a tongue-in-cheek look at the way school administrators make spending decisions and the disastrous affect such actions pose to the classroom.   The advertisements are part of the ProtectTheClassroom.com" initiative launched by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility in response to local school administrators around the state threatening to fire teachers in tight budget times. The ads started running in Beaumont and Corpus Christi late last week. They will now seen in the Dallas Houston Amarillo Lubbock and El Paso markets.   Its sickening to watch bureaucrats bully parents and teachers into believing that raiding the rainy day fund and hiking spending is the only way to protect the classroom. It just isnt so said Michael Quinn Sullivan TFRs president. Lots of teachers and classrooms can be protected with better spending decisions at the local level.   Sullivan pointed to recent news reports about one school district buying a F-350 King Ranch" luxury pick-up valued at $61000 for one administrator. With total expenditures on public education surpassing $11300 per child in 2010 instructional spending is just $4976 per child.   Rather than do the diligent work of cutting outside the classroom bureaucrats fearful of explaining the direct academic value of their jobs have used their power to threaten the classroom" added Sullivan. Its time to put an end to it."    The first ad called Administrator Decisions depicts a school superintendent using a dart board to decide which teachers to fire while pouring diligently over the important decision of where to have an administrators retreat.     The second ad called Science Lab Disaster gives an idea of what happens when science teachers are fired rather than having non-classroom spending put under the microscope.     Both ads include strong testimonials from Colleen Vera a retired Texas public school teacher who says that school boards need to keep the teachers cut the fat."   The ads can also be seen in the video section of ProtectTheClassroom.com.       Texans for Fiscal Responsibility (www.EmpowerTexans.com) is an Austin-based 501c4 organization promoting wise fiscal stewardship and citizen engagement.
