Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education today issued the following statement after the UT System Board of Regents selected Gregory L. Fenves the current provost and executive vice president of UT Austin as the sole finalist to replace outgoing UT Austin President Bill Powers:
Greg Fenves will be an excellent president for The University of Texas at Austin. We applaud Chancellor McRaven members of the UT System Board of Regents and the entire search committee for a thorough diligent process and an outstanding selection. Fenves will take over at a critical time for UT Austin. His leadership intellect and passion will well serve the campus community and the people of Texas whose lives are impacted daily by the research and teaching that take place on this UT campus. His deep knowledge of the campus his rapport with faculty students and alumni and his impeccable academic credentials combine to make him the perfect choice to lead the next era of excellence for UT Austin.

The Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education is a bipartisan group of concerned Texans who organized to publicly support and promote excellence in public higher education and oppose policies and recommendations that are destructive to its quality and long-term sustainability. Our group includes former university presidents chancellors and regents as well as numerous business leaders philanthropists and more than 400 prominent and engaged Texans. Formed in 2011 in response to a growing concern over recommendations being floated that could have long-term damaging effects on our institutions of higher learning the Coalition hopes to advance a thoughtful constructive and transparent dialogue around higher education in Texas seeking to improve the quality educational opportunities for all Texans.
