College Credit for Veteran Heroes Successfully Helping Launch Civilian Careers

Perry highlighting the Texas Workforce Commissions (TWC) College Credit for Heroes initiatives successful efforts in helping military veterans secure college credit for their military experience and re-enter the workforce.  Gov. Rick Perry TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar Central Texas College Chancellor Thomas Klincar Texas Veterans Commission Chairman T.P. OMahoney and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Assistant Commissioner Dr. MacGregor Stephenson presented an update on the programs growth at an event held at Central Texas College in Killeen. Seven community colleges are participating in the $3 million workforce development initiatives pilot projects. College Credit for Heroes helps our veterans save valuable time and money on tuition as they work toward a degree getting Americas best and brightest into the workplace as quickly as possible which benefits our veterans their families and the states entire economy." said Perry The College Credit for Heroes program includes an Individual Education Plan that has enrolled more than 90 current veteran participants and the establishment of accelerated paths to surgical technician and emergency medical service technician certification. Alamo Colleges Central Texas College Houston Community College Lee College Lone Star College San Jacinto College and Temple College are participating in the College Credit for Heroes initiative as part of the Texas Inter-College Council on Veterans.

Through the development of individualized degree programs that recognize prior learning and existing skills of veterans and the creation of an easily accessible online portal the Texas Inter-College Council on Veterans is leading the way in enhancing academic and employment opportunities for our Texas heroes" said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. We have an obligation to do everything we can to ensure veterans receive the best resources available to help them make a successful transition to the civilian world and this program is doing just that."
