(AUSTIN) Texas Comptroller Susan Combs efforts to recognize and expand the economic value of Texas tourism have earned her the Texas Travel Industry Associations Silver Spur Award given to public officials who TTIA believes have shown exemplary service to the state and the travel and tourism industry.
Comptroller Combs leadership in highlighting and championing the fiscal impact of state tourism has been instrumental in helping Texas maintain its position as a top domestic and international travel destination" said David Dunham chair of TTIAs Legislative Affairs Committee. She is always willing to go the extra mile to work for issues that benefit the states economy and quality of life."
Combs said tourism provides jobs for more than 544000 Texans and generates $60 billion in direct spending. Since 2000 annual revenues from hotel occupancy have increased more than $100 million.
I am truly honored to receive the Silver Spur Award but the people in the travel and tourism industry are the ones who should be recognized for helping to keep the Texas economy strong" Combs said. They work to bring visitors to Texas and keep them coming back; and they encourage Texans to discover the culture and natural wonders of our own state."
