Urges Bell County Residents to Check the Unclaimed Property List
(Bell County) Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said today that the city of Temple has reclaimed $1862 in unclaimed property; Temple Independent School District has reclaimed $860; and Bell County has reclaimed $12153.
Cities counties and school districts face challenges in this tough economy" Combs said. Our office has expanded its efforts to quickly contact local government entities that have money on the states Unclaimed Property List and help them reclaim it and I applaud the taxing entities in this community for taking the initiative to get this money back and put it to work for the taxpayers."
Combs also urged all Bell County area residents to check the Unclaimed Property List to see if they have money waiting to be claimed. The state is holding more than $11.3 million dollars in unclaimed property for people and businesses in Bell County including more than $2.9 million for those in Temple and $807628 for those in Belton. The Comptroller estimates a quarter of the people in Temple have money waiting to be claimed and a third of Belton residents have unclaimed property.

Many people who discover their names on the Unclaimed Property List do not claim their money possibly because it is a very small amount. Combs urges those folks to put their money to work for a good cause.
Unclaimed property owners now have the option to donate all or part of their unclaimed money to the Texas Match the Promise Foundation an organization created to provide matching scholarships to children enrolled in the Texas Tuition Promise Fund" Combs said. A new link on the Unclaimed Property Web page makes it easy to put your money to work for a childs future."

The state is holding about $2 billion in unclaimed property for missing owners statewide. Examples of unclaimed property include dividend payroll or cashiers checks; stocks bonds and mutual fund accounts; utility deposits and other refunds; insurance proceeds; mineral interest or royalty payments; dormant bank accounts; and abandoned safe deposit box contents.
