Alonzo. There is no doubt that we still have a number of  cold winter months in Texas serving  as a reminder that our utility bills will probably go up as our winter temperatures approach or go under freezing limits.  Of course that means that the cost of utilities will undoubtedly rise as we consume more energy to use our heating units stoves refrigerators and other appliances that will force us to stay indoors and away from the cold or freezing weather outdoors.  Purchasing energy-efficient ENERGY STAR-rated appliances you may be able save money while at the same time conserving energy.  I urge everyone to look into this money-saving program continued Rep. Alonzo. To help Texans learn more about the program the Comptrollers Office has launched a new website www.TexasPowerfulSmart.org where the most up to date information can be found and you can sign up for email updates on the program.  Briefly below is a quick synopsis of the new program:
  • Approximately $10 million of unclaimed rebate funds will be available for additional appliance rebates for consumers.
  • The new program will begin in the December or January timeframe.
  • The program will be a traditional mail-in program with no reservations required.  Consumers will purchase their appliance first and then mail in a rebate application.
