Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Comptroller Susan Combs today announced an interactive Web page where Texans can easily view information on November bond proposals being issued by cities, school districts, counties and special purpose districts around Texas.
Information on more than 90 upcoming local bond propositions identified to date and a state bond proposition can be found on the Tell the Truth Texas website at http://www.tellthetruthtexas.org/tools/bond-elections.php. As additional local bond election information is gathered, it will be added to the Web page.
“The Bond Election Roundup provides additional information to help Texans with a one-stop shop for transparency on debt they may be on the hook for,” Combs said. “We are placing bond proposition information on an interactive Web page voters can click through and see if any entity in their area is holding a bond election. The information includes the entity, purpose of the bond and bond amount.”
The Comptroller’s office is using various sources including media clippings to give the broadest account possible of Nov. 5 bond propositions. If anyone is aware of an election that is not on the website they are encouraged to contact the agency at truth@cpa.state.tx.us. Similar information will be gathered for local bond propositions to be held in May 2014.
In addition to the bond election information, the Tell the Truth website has also been updated with “Debt-at-a-Glance” Web pages at www.tellthetruthtexas.org/debt for the 20 school districts with the largest student populations. Web users can see debt totals, trends and other related information, as well as determine how each of the 20 districts compares in total debt outstanding and debt outstanding per capita.
Debt-at-Glance Web pages were already in place for the 20 largest cities and counties. Pages for more cities, counties, school districts and special purpose districts will continue being added to the website.
