Comptroller Combs Says Decrease in Sufficient Water Could Cost Texas Jobs

width=65Combs spoke at the Texas Water Conservation Associations Annual Convention this morning about the need to conserve water for the future prosperity of Texas. By the year 2025 two-thirds of the worlds population around 500 billion people are expected to be without sufficient water. According to Texas Comptroller Susan Combs this number doesnt bypass Texas either. Water resources will not be sufficient to Texans in 50 years" said Combs. By 2060 water demand will go up 27 percent but there is an expected 18 percent drop in the water supply." Combs also presented other startling statistics to act as a wake-up call" to Texans. We arent focusing enough on water and its an irreplaceable commodity" said Combs. In 2008 Texas brought in 154000 jobs71 percent of the entire U.S. job creation for that year. However by next year Texas could lose 100000 jobs if people do not have an adequate water supply and by 2060 Texas would lose 1.2 million jobs costing $98 million dollars in state revenue. We need to ask how do we conserve?" stated Combs We need to look at strategies for structure and methods for getting more water in the states." A spreadsheet went up this morning on the web with the dollar amount for each water conservation strategy and the amount these strategies will cost for the federal and state governments. Combs hopes that through these efforts the government and the people of Texas will see and understand the need to carefully preserve and take care of their current water resources to ensure a continued bright future for Texas.
