Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities counties transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $617.2 million in local sales tax allocations for January 0.1 percent less than in January 2015. These allocations are based on sales made in November by businesses that report tax monthly.
Hegar also said today that sales tax revenue for the state in December was $2.33 billion down 1.1 percent compared to December 2014.
As with the previous two months December sales tax revenue was down largely due to spending reductions in oil and gas-related sectors" Hegar said. This was expected given ongoing weakness in oil and natural gas prices. Remittances from other sectors such as construction and information continued to grow."

Media Note: To provide greater transparency and eliminate confusion regarding state sales tax revenues and local sales tax allocations the Comptrollers office will provide a press release announcing state revenues and a separate press release announcing allocations. This change will occur Feb. 1 2016. Sales tax revenues for the state will be announced at the beginning of each month. Sales tax allocations to local taxing entities will continue to follow the normal allocation calendar. All recipients of the current single press release will automatically be signed up to receive both of the new releases.
