Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Conroe Independent School District recently became the states first local government entity to achieve specific procurement transparency goals through Comptroller Glenn Hegars Transparency Stars program.
Conroe received a Contracts and Procurement Transparency Star awarded to those entities whose websites show a commitment to accountability and transparency in their contracting activities.
I want to congratulate the Conroe school district for this achievement and its ongoing efforts to make the contracts and purchasing process more transparent for taxpayers Hegar said. By embracing this effort and becoming the first local entity to be recognized with our Contracts and Procurement Star Conroe has taken an important step toward improving access to essential information.
The Comptrollers office launched the Transparency Stars program in March to recognize cities counties and school districts that provide easy online access to important financial data.
The program allows local governments to apply for recognition in up to five areas. Conroe received transparency stars for traditional finances and debt obligations in May. After receiving a Traditional Finances star local entities can go on to apply in other areas for a total of five stars:
The U.S. Public Interest Research Group noted the Comptrollers new program in its
evaluation of states transparency efforts.
