Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. Earlier today Texas Congressman Mike Conaway (R-Midland) Chairman of the House Defense Financial Management & Accountability Reform Panel held a public hearing to review
the DODs progress toward improving financial management and achieving audit readiness by 2017. Following the hearing Rep. Conaway had the following to say:
In this constrained fiscal environment the Department of Defense must continue to effectively manage their financial workforce to ensure the right people are in the right place to manage the taxpayers dollars effectively and achieve a clean audit by 2017.
I am encouraged by the testimony we heard from our witnesses from the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Military Departments this morning. One thing that has been readily apparent from our hearings is the vital importance of qualified and well-trained financial managers.
